Ashford Collins, an alumnus of MidAmerica Nazarene University, is the school’s 2023 recipient of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Living Legacy Award.

In 2022, Collins was also named the Alumnus of the Year during Homecoming festivities. Now an assistant principal in the Blue Valley school district, Collins taught many years in the Olathe school district and coached athletics at Santa Fe Trail Middle and MNU.
Before graduating from MNU in 2012 with a degree in education, Collins was a member of the Black Student Union, participated in campus choirs and took on several leadership roles, including as a campus housing resident assistant. He’s since earned a master’s degree and is working toward a doctorate in education.
