After a state report, Children's Lighthouse, a daycare in Olathe, has had its license suspended. According to the website for The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), the reasons listed for the suspension are,"childcare practices, failure to report, inappropriate discipline, lack of supervision, second judgment, staff/child ratios not met (and) terms of license."
BACKGROUND
A state report substantiated an investigation into alleged behavior at the daycare involving "pulling a child by the hair" and "slamming children into chairs." The report also stated that "the assistant director was notified of suspected child abuse and did not report it to the Department for Children and Families." Olathe Police Sergeant Joel Yeldell confirmed last month an active investigation and that the case has been referred to the DA.
KDHE surveyed the Olathe daycare in March upon a complaint. Among the alleged behavior at Children's Lighthouse per the KDHE report:
